Port Governance Tasks: Technical Management of the Port Area

Port Governance Tasks Technical Management of the Port Area

Port governance includes decisions regarding the various responsibilities linked to the technical management of the port area. The operation of a port is subject to decisions related to the land used by the port (e.g. land assigned to the port, acquisitions), the type of use for parts of this land (e.g. type of cargoes/passengers to be served, land to be used for building, warehouses, commercial reasons, the provision of building permits), and the provision of any licenses and authorizations needed for port operation and development. The above usually fall within the planning and real estate management offices. The decisions and execution of responsibilities related to the various dimensions of technical port management, and thus the choices regarding their governance, are closely tied to other types of port governance tasks.
