Port governance includes decisions regarding the performance of different types of tasks. This includes various responsibilities linked with the technical management of the port areas. The operation of a port is subject to decisions related to the land used by the port (e.g. land assigned to the port, acquisitions), the type of use for parts of this land (e.g. type of cargoes/passengers to be served, land to be used for building, warehouses, commercial reasons, the provision of building permits), and the provision of any licenses and authorizations needed for port operation and development. The decisions and the execution of responsibilities dealing with the various dimensions of the technical management of the port area, and thus the choices regarding their governance, are strongly related to the other types of port governance tasks.
