A form of terminal automation concerns remotely operated ship-to-shore gantry cranes. In the above photo, an operator controls a crane handling containerized cargo at Busan Container Terminal (BCT), a facility that opened in mid-2022. A system of cameras in a closed circuit allows for monitoring loading or unloading operations from multiple sets of angles and viewpoints, minimizing the risk of mishandling. Further, schemas are available concerning the loading and unloading sequence, the result of an optimization process for ship and yard stowage.
