Terminals commonly allocate a portion of their yard space to storing reefers. Porte Oceane terminal started its operations in 2008 and is managed by Terminaux de Normandie. The reefer staking area, which is a completely separate part of the terminal, has 438 plugs available, some of which are at reefer racks. Reefer racks share a common power supply, and each reefer can be accessed and monitored via a platform. They require continuous monitoring to ensure that the reefers refrigerating equipment are operational and that the cargo temperature is kept within a specific range. Otherwise, the terminal operator is liable for any damage to the refrigerated cargo.
