In the United States, a large portion of chassis are made available on regional or terminal pools owned by intermodal equipment providers, port authorities, or joint ventures. In this case, a truck driver backs up to pick up a pool chassis at Yusan Terminals in the Port of Los Angeles. Then, a container will be loaded onto the chassis and delivered to its consignee. The driver then has the option to return to the terminal to pick up another container with the same chassis or return the chassis to a designated location that could be elsewhere than where it was initially picked up. Due to a lack of space or use, chassis can be stacked for longer-term storage.
