In November 2007, the World Bank published its first report, which ranked 150 nations according to their logistics performance based on a metric labeled the Logistics Performance Index (LPI). The LPI is a composite of a country’s rating across seven criteria: customs clearance, logistics infrastructure, ease of international shipments, logistics competence/internal skillsets and service providers, tracking and tracing capabilities, domestic logistics costs, and timeliness/consistency. The higher its value, the more performant the national logistics. Countries that are able to connect to the global logistics network have access to vast markets and improved opportunities.
